  Stand containers in saucers with a layer of gravel, and water from the bottom once the plants are established. This will also help in very hot weather to keep them adequately watered.

  Plant up containers with interesting combinations of herbs as an unusual gift.

  Plant an old chimney pot with Lawn Chamomile and use it as a stool!

  A group of various sized containers can be sited to disguise and ugly manhole.

  Herbs that die down in winter - Mint, Chives, Tarragon etc., can be brought inside (greenhouse, conservatory or light windowsill) to keep them growing and extend their season.

  Tender herbs can be protected during severe weather if they are pot grown by moving them into shelter. e.g.; Myrtle, Bay (when young), Pineapple Sage, Lemon Verbena, Scented Geraniums, French Lavender and tender varieties of Rosemary.
