THE HISTORY OF THE HERB FARM

The Herb Farm was established in 1985 with the reconstruction on its present site of the picturesque 18th-century timber-framed barn transported from a farm south of Reading. This building formed the centre-piece of the specialist herb propagation and growing enterprise - the sale of herb and other home and garden products was introduced in 1989.

The Main EntranceThe Saxon Maze was opened in 1991 to coincide with the Year of the Maze, and has proved to be a very popular attraction, especially popular with families. The maze is currently undergoing extensive regeneration work to improve the quality of the beech hedging.

The Coffee Shop from the NurseryIn 1995 a number of additional larger polythene structures were erected to improve plant growing conditions and protection as well as providing further covered sales area.

1999 saw the major construction work on the new purpose-built timber-framed barn, skillfully and very sympathetically blended with the structure of the old barn. This provided the additional space needed for improved shopping facilities, as well as more attractive and extensive displays of gifts and other products.

In 2003 The Orangery Coffee Shop was opened in the newly-refurbished Conservatory. And in 2006 this became Daisyís Coffee Shop, where customers can enjoy an excellent menu and distinctive service any time of the day in relaxed, comfortable and attractive garden surroundings.
